1971 Citroen SM Coupe

A superb, unrestored, two-owner SM with 30,000 genuine miles and finished in a rare original color, Vert des Tropiques. It is also equipped with the recommended stainless-steel valve upgrade.

The recorded mileage of 30,000 miles is believed to be genuine from new. The original interior is remarkable, with virtually no wear. Even the instrument needles remain bright orange and appear new. The car has been stored indoors throughout its life, which explains its exceptional condition.

Mechanically, this SM is outstanding. The transmission shifts with a precise, rifle-bolt-like action and feels virtually new. The car also remains at its correct suspension height overnight—qualities rarely found on other SMs.

The car features additional fog lights and a Maserati trident beneath the headlamp glass cluster. It is in excellent, rust-free condition, including the usual vulnerable areas around the A-pillars and windshield channels, which appear sharp and factory fresh. Panel fit is excellent, with even gaps throughout.

This SM retains its original and rare delivery color, Vert des Tropiques, which was available only on 1971 and 1972 model-year cars. The paint finish is excellent.

The chassis is also in excellent condition, retaining its original factory undercoating throughout. Vulnerable areas, including the front valance, are free from damage.

All of the glass is unmarked. The stainless-steel trim is complete and generally in excellent condition, with the exception of some pitting on the chrome-plated door handles.

The engine is fitted with the recommended stainless-steel valves and has recently received an electronic-ignition conversion. The carburetors are perfectly tuned, and the car starts immediately whether hot or cold. It produces strong, smooth power.

The transmission is in virtually new condition, with perfect synchronizers. The entire car has an exceptionally tight, cohesive feel—something found only in a well-preserved, unrestored SM.

We have just changed the engine oil and filter. The car also has a new battery and exhaust system and rides on the correct Michelin XWX tires, all with good tread.

Interior
This is the quality that enthusiasts hope to find but rarely do. The unrestored gray cloth upholstery is completely unmarked, and every feature operates with an almost-new feel. Even the door pockets appear unused.
